abstract

chloritoid is crystallised with chlorite, white mica and garnet in chlorite zone metapelites ofthe regional metamorphic rocks of the sanandaj-sirjan metamorphic belt in southern iran. chemistry ofcoexisting minerals is studied using microprobe analysis. application of the chlorite-chloritoidgeothermometry gives temperatures of 515°c and 557°c. the chlorite-garnet fe-mg exchangegeothermometer indicates temperatures between 442°c and 460°c for various pressures. a comparisonof the results from two geothermometers, along with a study of mineral assemblages in the rocks showthat the chlorite-chloritoid thermometer overestimates the temperature by about 70°c.

High-Pressure Marbles from the Nahavand Area in the Sanandaj-Sirjan Metamorphic Belt, Iran

Marbles containing high-pressure mineral assemblage was found from the Sanandaj-Sirjan metamorphic belt in the Nahavand area in western Iran.  The high-pressure marbles occur as small bodies or lenses within pelitic schist layers and show compositional banding of carbonate- and silicate- rich bands.  Textural analysis revealed two metamorphic stages.  The early stage is testified by relicts of ...

Deformation flow analysis and symmetry of Goushti shear zone, Sanandaj-Sirjan metamorphic belt, Iran

Finite strain and vorticity analyses were carried out in the deformed conglomerate and micro-conglomerate of Goushti shear zone in the Sanandaj-Sirjan metamorphic belt (Zagros Mountains Iran). These deformed rocks are bounded between two NE and SW major thrust faults. Finite strain measurements on three principal planes of strain ellipsoid show the higher amounts of strain ratios near the major...

Biotite and Hornblende Composition Used to Investigate the Nature and Thermobarometry of Pichagchi Pluton, Northwest Sanandaj-Sirjan Metamorphic Belt, Iran

Pichagchi pluton is situated in the northeastern part of the Soursat complex in Sanandaj-Sirjan metamorphic belt of Iran. The pluton with the age of 74.20 Ma is composed mainly granodiorite, diorite, and tonalite in which mafic minerals are biotite and amphibole. In this study, composition of minerals used to describe the nature of the granitic magma and estimate the pressure and temperature at...

Metamorphic evolution of high-pressure Quartz Schists in the Chadegan metamorphic complex, Sanandaj-Sirjan zone, Iran

The Chadegan metamorphic complex is a WNW-ESE- trending antiformal structure located in Sanandaj-Sirjan structural zone, Iran. The inner core of the structure is made of orthogneiss, containing eclogitic lenses. Schists and marbles lie structurally above theorthogneiss and crop out in the external limbs of the antiformal dome. Two main deformational episodes have been documented in theschists an...
